✅ What You Need to Do as a Student
Enter every course and every grade into GradMap exactly as it appears on your transcript. That includes:
Every course from every year, with your grades including + and −
Remediated courses: enter both the original course and the retake, each with its own grade
Dual enrollment courses: enter the course as it shows on your high school transcript and the matching college course
College courses: 1 semester of a college course equals 1 full year of high school credit
Two grading systems at one school (for example, semester and yearly courses): add your high school twice, once for each grading system (see below)
Do not leave anything out and do not change any grades. GradMap applies each application's rules when it autofills.
🏫 If Your School Uses Two Grading Systems
Some transcripts have both semester courses (2 grades per year) and yearly courses (1 grade per year). If yours does, add your high school into GradMap twice:
High School > Grading System: Semester. Add all of your semester courses and grades here.
High School > Grading System: Yearly. Add all of your yearly courses and grades here.
This way each course gets the right amount of credit. GradMap then fills in your high school twice on the Common App, once for each grading system, and formats the same courses for the UC and CSU applications.
📄 What Each Application Receives
🔷 Common App
High school courses and grades: everything fills in as entered.
Remediated courses: both the original course and the retake fill in.
Grades with + and −: kept as entered.
Dual enrollment: the high school listing fills in as entered.
College courses: the Common App has no place to list individual college courses. Add them yourself as a note in the Additional Information section (see the format below).
🔷 UC Application
High school courses and grades: everything fills in.
Remediated courses: both the original course and the retake fill in.
Grades with + and −: on an A–F grading system, the UC application has no + or −. GradMap removes them automatically, so a B+ fills in as a B.
Dual enrollment: the course is not entered in the high school section. Only the matching college course goes in, in the college coursework section, so the A–G credit is not counted twice.
College courses: 1 semester of a college course counts as 1 full year of high school credit.
🔷 CSU Application (Cal State Apply)
High school courses and grades: everything fills in, except the original attempt of a remediated course.
Remediated courses: only the retake goes in, with the replacement grade. The original course is left out.
Grades with + and −: kept as entered.
Dual enrollment: the course is not entered in the high school section. Only the matching college course goes in, so the A–G credit is not counted twice.
College courses: 1 semester of a college course counts as 1 full year of high school credit.

🧮 Example: One Student, Three Applications
This student earned a D in Algebra 2 in 10th grade and retook it in summer school for a B+. In 11th grade they took one semester of Psychology through dual enrollment and earned an A−. It shows on the high school transcript as DE Psychology.
Entered in GradMap: English 10 (A−), Algebra 2 (D), Algebra 2 retake (B+), DE Psychology in the high school section (A−), Psych 101 as a college course (A−)
Common App: English 10 (A−), Algebra 2 (D), Algebra 2 retake (B+), DE Psychology (A−). The student adds Psych 101 to the Additional Information note.
UC Application: English 10 (A), Algebra 2 (D), Algebra 2 retake (B), Psych 101 as a college course counting as 1 full year (A). DE Psychology is not entered in the high school section.
CSU Application: English 10 (A−), Algebra 2 retake (B+), Psych 101 as a college course counting as 1 full year (A−). The original Algebra 2 and DE Psychology are not entered.
📝 Common App: How to List Your College Courses
Go to Common App > Writing > Additional Information and add a note in this format. List every college course you took during high school, one per line.
